Out of the blue, all of a sudden, I realized we were approaching possible retirement. Really? How can that be? I've worked since I was 16... all through college, marriage, two daughter. I just kept working. Could there be an end to working? Tom started talking about how his employer will continue to pay for medical insurance for he and his spouse, after he turns 60. It took awhile for this to sink in and to make sense to me. It took awhile for me to realize what a great benefit that was. It would pay for our health insurance until we turned 65 and qualified for Medicare. He went on to say that the Board was thinking about doing away with this benefit. So, he hoped they wouldn't before he turned 60.
We waited and hoped. In the mean time, we began to dream. What would that time in our life look like? Could we retire that early? What money would we live on and why would we retire? But, the idea was there so we began to look into options.
We love to travel and after lots of reading and researching I realized that a lot of people travel the country all the time. They live in campers full time. I entered the world of RVers!!! Lot's of new terminology, new ideas, and growing excitement. Terminology: 5er, TT, MH, TV, PV, full-timer, domicile, newbie, caravan, work camping, ...to name a few. It was a huge (and growing) number of people! I was surprised and excited!! I began to read their blogs about their adventures! I began to read them out loud to Tom. When I would see a trailer heading down the road I wondered if it was for a weekend trip or if they lived this wonderful life.
Oh I loved the old Airstreams. What a classy trailer! What a beautiful trailer. They still make them so I went online a lot and dreamed. Maybe we could travel for a few months! That would be great! We have always loved to travel! We could come back home when we were done .... and do what?
